if the dispatcher said "you wanna go long?"

I'd say "where's that?"

if the manifest said "46th Ave South"

I'd say "fuck that"

One company I worked for in D.C. used the "free call" system. On slow days they'd offer up a few car jobs to the bike guys, to give us chance to make a few dollars. It'd be stuff into the far corners of the District, or out into the Virginia or Maryland suburbs. You had to be in the right mood to volunteer for those jobs.

word. as an hourly legal messenger I would enjoy car jobs on sunny laid back afternoons usually to Ballard Fremont U-district podunk law firms. I can't say I ever rode to Rainier Beach before 2014. And I should expand and say if the alleycat manifest ever said 46th ave south I would skip that checkpoint. I usually skipped the whole thing or went straight to the bar at the end.
