At Elliott Bay Messenger Co I used to call the dispatcher from mailroom phones when I could. I also had a pocket full of change to call in from payphones, trying to scrounge up some work. Calling in on the radio frequency open to 10 or 12 riders didn’t always work out so well. If you think payphones sound “old” you should have seen the radios we schlepped around all day. They were bricks.
