Mike Watt signed my New Yorker article on Iggy Pop a few years back. He looked at the article photo, said “Ah man I love Iggy. I served with Iggy for 189 months.” Then he wrote on the left pec of Iggy’s photo ‘Mike loves Iggy’. I gave the New Yorker to my friend and tattoo artist because he was the singer in the first small venue band I saw live: Psychic Knot. My life changed that night and without that night I would have never known the minute men or mike watt. Mike Watt only deals in cash and has a circuit of small clubs he plays when on tour.
“Served”-his word choice still stands out for me.
