It’s been a long time since I devoted any attention to the space needle. It’s been a long long time since I took a picture of it. The working title of this shot is “cost of living”. The last time I went up the Needle was 45 years ago and there’s a very good chance that my winning streak will continue. Playing tourist for a day the other day with Junior and Junior-Junior: Pacific Science Center via Monorail and a long look up at the Needle holding an overpriced cup of ice cream. I learned that the needle is bolted down to its foundation with 72 bolts, each bolt is 30 feet long. Built to withstand a 9.0 earthquake and 200 mph winds. A family from outta town on the Monorail left wanting more after their two minute ride. The father said “Are you kidding me? That’s it? I paid four bucks for that?” I smiled and said internally, that’s how I feel, welcome to Seattle thanks for coming, enjoy your stay, your hotel and restaurant taxes are paying for our stadiums etc. weedle on the needle. I said weedle, not wheedle.
