I was informed at that party that one does not need to pronounce all 4 syllables of Wo-chess-ter-shire as I have done for most of my life. So I looked it up. According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, skip pronouncing the first “r” altogether, and the “ce” while you’re at it, and barely say the second “r.” Start the word off by saying “Wooster” and then finish off with the British “shire.” “Woostershire.” Anyways, now I just call it “whore sauce”. It is an integral part of a bloody mary and a michelada. Cheers!
