1997 new years lithia creek breached its banks and made ashland a river city. the historical buildings received 6 feet of sediment in their basements, the sewer system contaminated the water supply, the national guard brought in a semi flatbed loaded with an enormous cockroach queen looking fresh waterbag outside the safeway on siskyou for town supply, boiled water in pots to sponge bath like an amish kelly mcgillis and rogue brewery was washed out never to be heard from again. it was one of the most beautiful times in my life, but not for the tragedy. it was the community response. you just had to dig out of 6 feet of sediment to get there.
