that neighborhood was great before they moved in

that bike shop was cool when so and so worked there

that block was walkable when it was single family homes

they were great before they signed with major label 

a good cup of coffee was not $4.50

studio apartments were less than $350

bike messengers delivered VHS tapes

bike messengers delivered blue prints

bike messengers delivered depositions

whatever the question

I ride through 206 and suddenly like rip van winkle find myself at 2201 6th, the regrade or any number of places from lower Queen Anne to Lucille ave s. applying pledge to the dust on my memory trying to see what or wasn't there and the one thought routinely routes it way back: was mayor McGinn really that good for the city? then I remind myself about white people north of the canal. Stay south young man. Stay south.

right on. the running joke in my mind at a small non profit bike shop in Columbia City where I recently spent 4.5 years of my life punching the clock... in reference to volunteers, board members, even customers and many staff... "I'm a white person from North of the ship canal, I'm here to help!"
